About AHR

As an architectural historian, Ms. Millstein specializes in the preparation of National Register of Historic Places Nominations, Cultural Resources Inventories, Historic Preservation Certification Applications, Historic Structures Reports for National Historic Sites, Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), Section 106 and 4(f) Review. Ms. Millstein has prepared numerous Cultural Historic Resource studies for both compliance-related projects and environmental documents (EISs and EAs). Working locally, regionally and nationally, her firm provides efficient, scholarly, and timely reports.

Founder and principal of Architectural & Historical Research, LLC, Kansas City, Missouri, Ms. Millstein meets the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for architectural historians and is a certified 36CFR61. Her firm can provide a wide range of services to assist in compliance with federal preservation law, develop strategies for preservation planning and use for cultural resources. Additionally, Architectural & Historical Research, LLC, can produce large-format, archival photographic documentation for HABS and HAER projects, construction documentation, architectural guides, and promotional materials. Photographs can be transferred to digital files and can be supplied in CD-ROM.

Ms. Millstein has experience in compiling historical survey analyses and documentation for restoration master plan studies. Her research and work on these projects has been instrumental in establishing parameters for restoration and rehabilitation, adaptive re-use and renovation. For these activities, The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties is used as basic guidelines.

Throughout her career, Ms. Millstein has published numerous articles, both locally and nationally, on architectural and preservation-oriented issues. She has also served as assistant editor for the Society of Architectural Historians Newsletter, editor of the SAH Missouri Valley Chapter's Newsletter and architecture critic for The Kansas City Business Journal.

Ms. Millstein's firm, Architectural & Historical Research, LLC, was founded in 1983. The firm is a registered Women Business Enterprise (WBE) with the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Ms. Millstein holds an M. A. in Art History from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a B. A. in Art History from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. From 1997-2000, she was a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Association for Olmsted Parks. In 1995-1996, she served as president of the Missouri Valley Chapter Society of Architectural Historians. She is currently a Trustee for the Liberty Memorial Association, Kansas City, Missouri, and a member of the nomination's committee for the Society of Industrial Archeology.
